Elopements and small weddings

Updated: 5 days ago

So I am totally biased when it comes to elopements, micro weddings and small weddings, as we had just 25 people at ours at the stunning Gilpin Lake House way back when. My top piece of advice to couples is always to do your wedding your way and prioritise what's important to you. If that's having just the two of you or a handful of guests go for it!

In the UK, you need to be married by a registered person (a registrar) or an ordained Minister. So registry offices are wonderful options for small ceremonies and elopements. I've curated a list of venues I love that are certified for tiny and small weddings in the north west...

  • Altrincham Town Hall, Greater Manchester. Heritage architecture in the heart of altrincham for the couple that wants a cool urban venue.

  • Eleven Didsbury Park, Greater Manchester. Nestled away behind the leaves of Didsbury Park, the original Victorian charm and open fires create an air of stylish calm.

  • Forestside, Cumbria. Surrounded by woodland, this foodie hotel can be booked exclusively for intimate celebrations.

  • The Love Shack, Cheshire. The perfect retreat for just the two of you, set in idelic woodland

  • The Merchant's Yard, Derbyshire. A relaxed restaurant with rooms, perfect for foodies, with its award winning restaurant.

  • The Lake House, Gilpin Hotel, Cumbria. The boat hut or gazebo by the lake makes the perfect spot for a special ceremony for two. You can even take a row out on to the lake together after.

  • The Knott Estate, Cumbria. This family run estate hosts elopement ceremonies in their charming Lounge Barn.

  • Wildhive, Callow Hall, Derbyshire. An elegant victorian country house nestled in woodland where you can spend your wedding night in one of the wild hive treehouses in the ancient woodland.

After the ceremony, why not choose your favourite restaurant or pub to celebrate. Most restaurants are available to hire and provide a lovely intimate venue for foodie couples. You could also take a picnic to your favourite place.

In terms of elopement and small wedding florals, I get very excited about couples focusing on the two of you and prioritising exactly what they want. I offer very flexible options to couples to reflect the fact that you'll probably want something portable as well as lovely. This could look like collecting a bouquet to take with you if you're traveling, or prioritising small arrangements for a boutique venue. You can easily book a consultation direct to chat through ideas and get some inspiration.
