Top tips on wedding florals for newly engaged couples

Congratulations on your engagement! Planning your wedding is an exciting journey, and one of the best bits is choosing your flowers (I might be biased). Florals and natural elements add a magical touch to your special day. So where to begin… here’s my top tips on wedding florals for newly engaged couples to get you started.

  1. Decide what’s important to you

I know from first-hand experience, that when you first get engaged, everyone seems to pop up with ideas and thoughts of their own. Weddings don’t have to be a certain way.

The most important tip I give every couple is to focus on what’s important to you. Want it to be small, all flowers, no flowers, informal, no speeches, or have board games and no band? You can. Despite what people day, there’s no rules. For me and my husband it was keeping it small, having lovely food and lots of flowers (of course!) that was important to us.

  1. Explore your vision

Before diving into specifics, take some time to envision your wedding day. Your vision will help guide your choices and give you a starting point for the flowers.

  • What does the day look like?

  • What style of wedding do you want? (it might be helpful to think about your personal styles here)

  • Are there particular colours you love?

  • Are there any flowers that hold special meaning for you?

  1. Get some inspiration

It can be difficult to know where to start. So, take your time and have a google and see what images and ideas jump out at you. You could create a mood board on Pinterest or collect inspiration from magazines.  A small word of caution, is that not everything online is as it seems, styled photoshoots, million-pound weddings and AI generated images can raise expectations. Remember to be realistic, there’s always ways to turn your inspiration into ideas for your big day.

  1. Set your budget

Flowers can add a truly special accent to your day. It’s ok to realistic about your budget and where you want to focus it. Investing in a really special bouquet that will be in all your pictures might be more important than spreading your budget too thinly.

An experienced florist will be able to work with you on your priorities and suggest creative ways to maximize your investment, such as repurposing ceremony arrangements as your table centres at your reception.

  1. Trust your florist’s expertise

Your florist is your partner in bringing your floral vision to life. Be open to their suggestions as they have experience and ideas to make the most of the season and capture your style.
