Whilst there are a more limited selection of flowers available in the UK through the winter months, I hope this article will inspire you within the gorgeous textures of locally grown British flowers for your wedding in those chillier months.
TOP TIP - If you want to make sure your flowers don't look too christmasy, try avoiding using reds or red berries and pine. Opt instead for whites, greens and eucalyptus, which is in season all winter. Hellebores also have flowers in lots of shades of pinks and purples as well as white and green tones.
Some flowers such as alstroemeria, tulips, anemones, ranunculus and sweet rocket may be available in winter if grown in a greenhouse. You'll also find various shrubs such as skimmia or viburnum in abundance. Here's our top flowers to include in your winter wedding flowers:
Alstroemeria Crocus (short stems) Dried flowers Heather Hellebores | Honesty Hyacinth Narcissi Paper white Pussy willow Seed pods | Skimmia Snow drops Viburnum Winter honeysuckle |
You can also add lovely textures to your arrangements by using dried flowers, interesting foliage, seed pods and dried grasses. Here's some ideas to inspire you:
For warm burgundy tones try dark leaved foliage such as pittosporum.
Dried anabelle hydrangea heads add delicate texture and neutral tones.
To add colour try sourcing dried hellicrysum, commonly known as strawflowers.
Use foliage to bring fragrance such as rosemary, eucalyptus or pine to bring fragrance.
Honesty seed pods give a lovely sparkling transleucent effect.
